Our MRI provides detailed images to help identify injuries, inflammation, tumours, conditions affecting soft tissues, joints, organs and other abnormalities throughout the body.
These detailed images help doctors closely assess conditions and make informed decisions about diagnosis and treatment.
Edison Radiology’s MRI service combines advanced technology with a focus on clear, comfortable and efficient imaging. Our service covers a broad range of examinations that your doctor may refer you for.
Our Siemens 1.5T MRI delivers exceptional image clarity, helping our radiologists and GPs make confident, informed decisions about your care.
MRI uses no ionising radiation, and most people can have an MRI safely. Please let us know if you have any metal implants, pacemakers, or other medical devices. Your safety is always our first priority.
The scan is painless and non-invasive, no sedation is usually required. You’ll lie comfortably on a table that moves into the MRI scanner. Some scans may require a contrast injection to provide clearer, more detailed images. The machine does produce some noise, so we will provide ear protection. If you feel anxious or claustrophobic, please let us know when you book and our team will take extra care.
Remove jewellery, watches, or other metal items. Please let our team know if you have any other medical concerns.
Arrive 15 minutes early to complete any required paperwork and safety screening.
You’ll lie comfortably on a table that moves into the MRI scanner. It’s important to remain as still as possible so clear images can be obtained.
No recovery time is required. You can leave after your appointment and return to your normal activities.
Images will be reviewed and reported by a senior radiologist, with the results sent to your referring healthcare professional.
Some MRI scans require an injection of a contrast agent called gadolinium to show certain tissues and blood vessels more clearly. Our team will explain if it’s needed. Please tell us about any kidney problems, previous contrast reactions, or pregnancy before your scan.
You can usually continue taking your regular medications unless your doctor or our team advises otherwise. We’ll provide any specific preparation instructions when you book. Please do not stop taking prescribed medication without medical advice.
Most MRI scans take between 15 and 60 minutes, depending on the area being examined and the images required. Some specialised scans take longer. Please allow additional time for safety screening, preparation and any observation needed afterwards. Our team can advise how long to allow for your appointment.
Most people can drive home after a routine MRI scan. If you receive sedation or medication to help you relax, arrange for someone to take you home and do not drive for at least 24 hours, or longer if instructed. If you feel unwell after your scan, speak with our team before leaving.
Bulk billing depends on the type of MRI scan, your referral and applicable Medicare eligibility requirements. Please contact our team with your referral before booking so we can confirm whether bulk billing is available and explain any out-of-pocket costs.
A radiologist will review your images and send a report to your referring doctor. Timing depends on the complexity and urgency of your scan. Ask our team when to expect your report, and follow up with your doctor to discuss the findings.
