A CT (Computed Tomography) scan combines a series of X-ray images taken from different angles to produce detailed, cross-sectional pictures of your body. It is one of the most powerful diagnostic tools available, and at Edison Radiology, it is powered by the GE Revolution CT with AI Fidelity.
CT scans are used to diagnose a wide range of conditions, including injuries, cancers, vascular conditions, and organ abnormalities.
Your doctor will advise you if a CT is the right next step.
Edison Radiology’s CT suite is built around one idea: the technology should work harder, so you don’t have to. Every scan is captured on our GE Revolution CT with AI Fidelity and reviewed by an experienced consultant radiologist.
Scans we perform: Our CT suite covers the full range your doctor may refer you for, including brain and head imaging, chest and lung scans, abdominal and pelvic imaging and more.
The scan is quick, painless, and non-invasive. You will lie on a table that moves through a ring-shaped scanner. Some scans require a contrast dye injection for clearer images. You may need to fast or pause certain medications. We will provide full preparation instructions when you book.
Preparation varies depending on the type of CT. At the time of booking, please tell us about any allergies, pregnancy, or kidney concerns.
Images are reviewed by a senior radiologist. The report is sent directly to your referring doctor.
CT scans are generally safe when clinically necessary. They use X-rays, which carry a small radiation risk, so your doctor considers the benefits and risks before recommending a scan. Please tell our team before your appointment if you are pregnant or think you may be pregnant.
Some CT scans require a contrast injection to show organs, tissues and blood vessels more clearly. Whether you need contrast depends on the scan and the information your doctor needs. Our team will explain this beforehand. Please let us know if you have kidney problems or have previously reacted to contrast.
Continue taking your regular medications unless your doctor or our team advises otherwise. Tell us what medications you take when booking, particularly if you have diabetes. We’ll explain any changes needed for your specific scan. Do not stop any medication without medical advice.
Most CT examinations take around 10–30 minutes, including preparation, although the scan itself is usually very quick. Please allow extra time if you need contrast, additional preparation or observation afterwards. Our team can advise how long to allow when you book.
Most people can drive themselves home and return to their usual activities after a routine CT scan. If you receive sedation or medication that affects your ability to drive, you’ll need someone to take you home. Follow the team’s instructions and do not drive if you feel unwell.
Bulk billing depends on your scan, referral and Medicare eligibility. Please contact our team when booking to confirm whether your CT scan will be bulk-billed and whether any out-of-pocket costs apply.
A radiologist will review your images and prepare a report for your referring doctor. Reporting times vary depending on the complexity and urgency of your scan. Please ask our team when your report is expected, and arrange a follow-up with your doctor to discuss the results.
